Today was an easy one. Basically because it was a rest day. Well kind of. I managed to finish filming my first exercise video. That actually was very hard going, especially when I got things wrong and had to do them again. I tell you it was no easy feat! But I feel good that I have accomplished completing that task. I’ve been wanting to do it for years!
The afternoon was spent planning in Costa Coffee where I happened to see the beautiful Ms Helen Johnson, a former Zumba client (who stopped attending because of an injury). She hadn’t seen me in about 6 months. When she looked at me she said ‘Look at your cheekbones! You can really see them!’ (Or something to that effect). Of course my face burst out into a huge grin as I took on board the compliment.
I can’t lie, it feels good to have other people notice that my hard work is paying off. It is definitely a motivating factor and I want to continue to feel like this, so I will do what it takes!
Thank you Helen, you really made my day! xxx
“Every time you extract the vitamin and mineral juice from the fibres of fruits and vegetables you have pro-juiced something medical science can but only dream of replicating.”
The Juice Master, Jason Vale. 2007
Today was a rest day, so I focused on nourishing my body. One way I did this was by making my own fresh fruit juice. I have long been a fan of home-made natural fruit and vegetable juices. Not only do they taste great (well fruit drinks taste lovely) but they also have great health benefits. Depending on the type of fruits and vegetables you drink some of the benefits include helping with:
- Migraines (celery, lemons)
- Colds (Lemon, oranges, pineapples with honey)
- Arthritic Relief (Grapefruit, pineapple, apple, blackberry)
- Improving your Love Life (blueberries, oranges)
- Skin Conditions such as eczema and psoriasis (avocado, cucumber, celery, apples)
The list goes on.
I bought a juicing machine years ago and it was well worth the investment. Admittedly I do not drink as much natural fruit juice as I should but when I do I know my body gets the rich nutrients it needs as nature intended. Also, I find my skin glows, the whites of my eyes start to sparkle and I just feel wonderful. It’s like my body knows it has been treated to natural greatness.
So today I made an apple, strawberry and ginger juice. The combination of fruits was heavenly. I ‘almost’ licked the glass clean! This combination of fruits provides my cells with anti-oxidants and phytonutrients. Both play a role in helping to prevent chronic diseases such as cancer, heart disease, strokes, Alzheimers, cataracts and more.
And all this is available from plants that grow from the earth! No artificial chemicals needed!
Isn’t nature remarkable? I love it!
There really is not much to say other than DOMS!!!!!! (Delayed Onset of Muscle Soreness). Every single muscle in my body is crying after the Bootcamp Training yesterday.
What made it worse was that I was an assistant instructor on a SO Dancehall master class with instructor Denise Sutherland who mashed up Handsworth Lesiure Centre. The ladies were calling out for more.
My legs were like jelly. I just had to keep smiling when really what I wanted to do was bawl out in pain. But like Bob Marley says ‘When the music licks, you feel no pain.’ So after a while it wasn’t too bad.
But trying to sit on the royal throne is another story! Owww!
And what a day it has been! I am writing this blog post on the train back from Basingstoke where I took a Bootcamp Instructor training course. Oh man! It was tough! It felt like we did a thousand squats, a million press-ups, a squillion burpees and ten thousand other killer exercises! I know my body will feel it tomorrow.
The fantastic news is that I passed both the practical and written assessments and I am now a qualified Bootcamp Finess Instructor. “Why did you do the course, when you love dance fitness so much?” I hear you all asking. I do love Zumba and SO Dancehall with a passion. I have benefitted greatly from these programs. I have lost almost 2 stones in weight and have increased my fitness levels big time. I will always love shaking my booty to music with others. That will not change.
However, like with all areas of my life, I need to be challenged and I want to develop my skills. It’s time for me to grow further and truly bloom. It has come to a natural point where I now feel fitness needs to be a part of my life. This is not just to keep me looking my best but also because I am passionate about helping people to reach their goals. I have always loved fitness (even if my body didn’t always reflect that). Now that I have dipped my feet in the ‘teaching fitness’ pool, I am ready to dive in and complete the journey. So in short, teaching Bootcamp fitness programs will be the next stage in my personal development jaunt – there will be much more to come!
Taking part in this weight loss challenge has really forced me to think long and hard and about my future body and career. One of the reasons I did this is to motivate other people. I don’t think I can truly motivate someone to lose weight if I have not been through the same or similar programs that I will be asking future clients to. Another reason was because I was tired of hearing my own excuses as to why I can’t have the body of my dreams. It is no longer enough to just have lost weight.
So, already this challenge is paying off big time. Not only am I losing weight and reshaping my body but I am also making huge positive decisions about the direction of my life!
Wow! Isn’t it amazing when you allow yourself to take risks?
Today I looked in the mirror and I did a double-take. I was like ‘Where did all that shape come from?’ My upper body is changing shape! I am starting to look a lot more toned than I did just two weeks ago. That is of course down to the weight training I have been doing. I had forgotten how quickly training with resistance can change the look of a body.
I’ve always loved training with weights (even though I stopped doing it on a regular basis about 7 years ago). Many women are afraid of weight training as they fear it will make them look manly but that is not true if you opt for a light weight work-out. Look how toned and fabulous Tina Turner (still) looks!
Frequently, I find myself telling women how much Zumba Toning ® helped to reshape my body and accelerate my fat loss. This is one of the reasons why I incorporated weight training into my exercise plan. I know it works!
On another note, I am so glad that I have changed my eating habits so that I am eating more frequently. I have so much more energy and I am not thinking about food so much. Today’s lunch was a chicken sandwich in wholemeal pitta bread with salad and dinner was chicken pasta with loads of veg. I am so full! I now feel confident that I can go to my friend’s birthday get-together this evening and not be tempted by the goodies that will be on offer.
